Bye Bye Atkins

On August 1st I began a tight regimen of Low Carb eating.  This was in part to break myself of the horrible habits I had gotten in over the summer eating anything and everything, and to prepare my body for the last weeks of training before the Rosarito to Ensenada Fun Ride on 9/24/11.  The Low Carb diet was to last 30 days, then I would still have three weeks of hardcore training with a balanced diet, and a day leftover to carb up before the ride.

I weighed in at 166.5 on 8/1, and by Thursday 8/18 I was down 10 lbs.  However since this time I have only lost another 2lbs or so.  I have been really strict with my carbs however what I have found is the more I train for the ride, the less weight I lose (and there have been gains after a big workout as well).  Perhaps its water weight; perhaps my metabolism just refuses to go into complete Ketosis, but regardless, I did my 30 days and I am moving on.

The next three weeks will be full of healthy eating with enough to fuel my training.  I am hoping for another 10lbs or so to be gone before the ride, I realize losing another 10 will be hard especially in 3 weeks when I am training and so close to my goal weight anyway (about 20lbs from where I am).  But I have to keep a positive attitude.

What I can say is that Atkins, or Low Carb is not for me.  Although I do understand its ability to help shed pounds quickly, I think I am better off sticking to healthy diet and exercise from here on out!

My First Blog Post

Ok so I have decided I needed a bigger place to bitch than my couple of characters allowed in my Twitter Feed.  I dont actually expect anyone else to read my random thoughts, really is just a place for me to put things I am thinking about and hopefully be able to move on.  So read at your own risk.  I am very opinionated, I have horrible grammar and spelling and for the most part people that are selfish and don't think or do with what is best for the whole really piss me off.

I am a stay at home Mom who puts family first.  I try to do all those Mom things like baking my kids birthday cakes, sewing their halloween costumes from scratch, and doing crafts or playing games together as a family.  We are fiscally responsible, bought our home in 2002 and owe much less than we paid for it because we never used our house as an ATM, we do not believe in carrying credit card debt, nor buying on credit.  If I can't pay cash for it....I dont really need it.  Our kids are well dressed with new shoes, but we buy minimal new clothes and are fortunate for the many hand-me-downs we receive.  Its not that we dont have the money to shop at the Mall...its a personal choice.

We try to eat healthy, I cook almost all meals from scratch, using minimal processed foods, and cooking with fresh ingredients as much as possible.  This does not mean we do not indulge, and we certainly do not eat organic because I see no value in it.  I try to keep my kids away from perservatives as much as possible but that doesn't mean they can't have a bowl of Captain Crunch for breakfast...you have to indulge from time to time.  My kids drink water most of the time, and are allowed juice maybe once a day.  In addition they are allowed a sugar sode about once a month while attending familiy celebrations.

With all that said, I am not actually as conceided as I may sound, I realize that as much as I bitch I know I still do not have all the answers, and I probably do not want them.  At time I know I speak and write like I believe I am better than everyone else, but honestly its more that I am mad that I am bothering to do whats right while I watch other take advantage of so many things.

Hopefully this will allow me to keep myself in check as well and remember that many are doing the best even though it may not seen so to me :-)
